3rd edition of Huawei ICT competition in Ghana saw over 2000 university students registering

The launch of the annual Huawei ICT competition 3rd edition in Ghana has officially been unveiled across the various Universities in Ghana with over 2000 students from the renowned universities such as University of Ghana, UPSA, UMAT, Ghana Telecom, KNUST, etc. registering to take part in this year’s edition.

The competition is organized to help promote Information Communication Technology (ICT) industry certificates and to develop ICT industry talents in our various tertiary institutions that major ICT and Engineering related courses.

There are four stages to be carried out in the competition;

The first stage will take place in the third week of November and the National Finals in the second week of December. The National Finals will bring out top 100 students in Ghana and they will be competing against top 100 students across Africa in February 2020. The Global Finals will take on in May 2020, which will see qualified students from across the globe competing for the ultimate in China.

Students who will be participating will have training, lectures and many more to enable them to prepare. Students participating will also have a chance to win amazing offers such as Internship opportunities, Huawei devices like laptops, phones etc. and sponsored trips to South Africa and China.

Last years edition saw as many students from ICT and Engineering students from top universities in Ghana participating, with 100 students qualifying from the initial stage with Timothy Seffah Duodu, from KNUST who was a final year emerging as the overall best student in Ghana. The top 3 students who represented Ghana at the Regional Stage in South Africa were also from KNUST.

The aim of this competition is to prepare and develop quality talents for our various industries for digital transformation and to contribute to a sustainable talent and to help talented students gain experience and be exposed to the latest ICT knowledge.

Mr Geoffrey Li, Director for Enterprise at Huawei Ghana in a conversation with some past participants said, ‘The ICT competition is part of the Huawei Academy initiative which seeks to develop the ICT talent ecosystem.
