Cyber Ghana to young girls in Information And Technology

A Ghanaian npn-governmental organisation (NGO), Cyber Ghana, that trains young people in digital space, has organised a boot camp for girls in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis with the aim of impacting them with k iwledge and hands-on practice in IT

The Software Engineer part of this project, Mr Samuel Afotey Laryea, said the core mandate of their organisation is to help bridge the unemployment gab through the training and developing the interest of girls in the digital world.

He said with the current advances being made in modern technology, it was imperative to encourage young people, especially girls, to take advantage of the new skills in technology to create jobs for themselves and others.

He said Cyber Ghana offers the opportunity for people to train in the assembling of drones, certified hacking, digital forensics and other cyber-related skills in their six laboratories across the country.

Mr. Laryea is of the believe that equipping the girls with these skills will influence their program of choice at the tertiary leve.

“Our research shows that we need to start giving this kind of skills to students at the Junior and Senior High School levels such that by the time they get to the university, they already know what they want to specialize in,” he stressed.

He further commended the various Heads of Senior High Schools for their participation by allowing the establishment of Cyber Clubs in their schools and encouraged students to join for their own good.

Mr Laryea touched on some issues facing their progress. A major factor being finances. He therefore called on stakeholders to invest in technology since the world is moving in that direction at top speed.

Some previous participants shared how beneficial the courses taught has been to them, to which they hope to put to use someday.

“The world is changing with the times and so it is important to get equipped with such knowledge,” they said.
