E-levy: We need to be able to finance our own development – Ursula

The Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekkuful, has said that, in order for Ghana to experience true independence, it should be able to finance its own development.

And for the nation to own up to its responsibilities, the government of Ghana has to get a means of generating domestic revenues for its development.

The Minister made these statements during the E-levy proposal in Koforidua on 27th January 2022. She said; ” so long as we depend on loans they will dictate the pace of our developments.”

“We need to find the way to increase domestic revenue mobilization,” she added.

“We are talking about a Ghana beyond aid, we need to be able to finance our own development and stop the dependence on either loans or grants or aid from other countries if we are to be truly independent.”

His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, earlier this year reiterated the need for the introduction of the E-levy in the 2022 budget statement.

The President tweeted on Wednesday 26th January that the e-levy proposal is part of a collective effort to curb the nation’s dependence on debt.
