FG again extends the deadline for the NIN-SIM link to March 31, 2022

On Friday, Mr. Isa Pantami, Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy announced that the deadline for the NIN-SIM verification has been pushed to the end of March, which is 31 March 2022. This he made known in a statement journalists in Abuja. The Minister justified the extension saying requests had been made by stakeholders, including the Nigerian citizens both home and abroad.

He said the extension will in itself be of help to the Federal Government for it to put together the revenue from the process so far. This will be the third time such an exercise is extended on this same basis since its inception in 2020.

He also said as of 30th December 2021, statistics from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) showed that over 71 Million NINs had been issued across the over 14000 enrolment centers set up across the country.

The minister further urged Nigerians and legal residents to enroll for their NINs and link with their SIMs during this period of extension as more services will be requiring the NIN for identification.  He further reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government to support the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) in ensuring that the objectives of the exercise are achieved.
