Ghana Celebrates 2025 MSME Day with Digital Transformation Push

According to GNA, on June 25, 2025 in Accra, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MOTAI) and the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) will lead the national celebration of MSME Day under the theme “Empowering MSMEs, Connecting Entrepreneurs for a Digital and Sustainable Future.”
Putting Technology to Work
The event highlights the government’s focus on digital tools as a growth engine for small businesses. The goal is to see at least 70 percent of participating MSMEs adopt digital platforms by connecting 200 enterprises to mobile banking and core infrastructure. This effort will help businesses automate record-keeping, reach new customers online, and access finance more easily through solutions like MobileMoney and Stanbic Bank’s digital portals.
Partnerships Driving Progress
Key partners include UN agencies in Ghana (UNCDF, UNCTAD, UNDP), the European Union, German development cooperation, MTN Ghana, MobileMoney LTD, and Stanbic Bank. Together they will offer:
- Digital Innovation Showcase featuring software demos, e-commerce tools, and cloud-based services
- MSME Clinic where entrepreneurs get hands-on support with compliance, digital onboarding, and finance applications
- Capacity-Building Workshops on topics such as social-media marketing, data analytics, and cyber-security essentials
Voices on the Vision
Trade Minister Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said that by embracing digital platforms, Ghanaian entrepreneurs can expand beyond local markets and compete globally. She called on development partners and the private sector to back this vision so MSMEs can innovate, formalize, and integrate into supply chains. GEA CEO Margaret Ansei added that digitization will drive job creation, boost productivity, and build resilience.
Looking Ahead
Over 250 stakeholders are expected in Accra, with more than 1,000 viewers tuning in online. Activities will include a high-level policy dialogue, success-story panels, and a Made-in-Ghana exhibition of locally developed tech products. By strengthening digital ecosystems, Ghana aims to ensure that its small businesses are better equipped for tomorrow’s markets, creating a more inclusive and sustainable economy.
