Ghana Lab Tech Holds Summit for Young Digital Entrepreneurs
Last Week Friday, Ghana Lab Tech held a local startup summit for upcoming digital entrepreneurs to give them the platform to pitch their business ideas on mobile apps after the skill training session they provided to these youngsters.
The summit was held on the theme “Mobile applications for sustainable business development and job creation in Accra West.”
Six groups contested and out of the lot, three groups emerged as winners. They were given awards and also were privileged to participate in an incubation stage for a coaching and mentorship program by industry players. They also get to have their ideas translated into sustainable tech-based businesses.
Ghana Lab Tech is an agency under the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, and partners with the World Bank and Mastercard Foundation to equip young men and women with digital and employable skills for sustainable jobs and wealth creation.
Tourizila group emerged first with their mobile app resource that serves as one-stop information on tourism destinations in Ghana, while Kidd app group came second for developing a child-friendly education app.
Di Dwa group emerged third for its mobile app that brings supermarkets to the doorstep of the consumer.
The other mobile app developers which included PharmNet, Care Spot, Asset Realty Group, Equity Agency, and the Mechanic also showcased their mobile apps for solutions to health care, automobile service, and job seeking.
Mr. Richard Joseph, a lead for Digital Times Africa, urged the young software developers to “think beyond money” by understanding the needs of end-users and creating values to satisfy their needs.
He added that people found comfort in digital space, citing the effects COVID-19 had on people during the lockdown. He noted that people mostly relied on the internet space and mobile apps to connect their business.
The managing partner of Startup Accra exposed the young digital entrepreneurs to opportunities in the digital space and encouraged them to create solutions for businesses for sustainable employment.
Panelists, Bright Sunu Etornam and Selorm Ayikoe Tito, further discussed various business opportunities and prospects in the country for mobile applications.
