Although he is not in the public domain, entrepreneur and creative designer Patrick Amofah, also known as Nana Amofah, is doing something great for himself.

He is behind Hourhand Watch Company, a watch company based in Ghana. Still, He has provided watch solutions to a substantial number of Individuals, Institutions, and Organizations in different parts of Africa and other European Countries.

In an interview about how his interest in watchmaking started, Patrick Amofah said, “The idea of starting a watch company came after I lost my father in 2017. He was a lover of watches and left a significant number behind. There was one in particular that I wanted to wear, but it was broken, and I had a hard time finding a good watchmaker to restore it in Ghana.”

When I finally got someone, they ruined the dial, trying to fix the fallen markers on it with glue. I was disappointed because it was one of my father’s favourite watches. Due to the sentiments attached, I wanted to have his timepieces with me all the time. That’s when I became interested in watches and took some time to understand basic concepts of watch movements,” he said.

According to him, after countless interactions with different people, he noticed people with defective collectible watches and even normal ones looking for the proper watchmakers to entrust them with their possessions.

“Therefore, I decided to explore the business opportunity and the market demand. In 2020, I started this as a full-time business. Because of COVID-19 and subsequent restrictions, I operated it as e-commerce, restoring watches and selling well-known branded watches. Early in 2021, we noticed that clients wanted to meet physically to leave their valuables confidently. Sadly, I didn’t have enough capital, so I looked for alternatives.

“I would sometimes meet some clients in person. Thank God I’d a car made it a bit manageable – I still needed the office. Therefore, I discussed with one of my friends who lived at a prime location in Spintex to use his space for meeting clients since I was at Tema, quite far from the clients I was serving at the time. We saw a boost in the number of clients that walked in to get some service and couldn’t host them in the house anymore. We finally moved into our current facility at Greda Estate in August the same year and have invested considerably in procuring Swiss-standard watchmaking tools and devices,” he said.

Talking about the success of Hourhand Watch Company, Patrick said his team, made up of well-trained professionals in watchmaking, supples their services to different parts of Africa and other European Countries.

He stated, “We ensure that the defective timepiece is carefully inspected, followed by a series of tests using the available state-of-art devices to evaluate the condition.

Our stringent inspection and tests allow us to recommend appropriate solutions that restore the timepiece to its aesthetic perfection. We allow flexibility for our clients to decide on the services they need based on our test results.

The goal is to leverage available resources and opportunities to transform the Ghanaian economy through creative and strategic partnerships.
