As such, the Bank of Ghana issues these limitations on the service based on the license they have and also for security reasons.
So, in effect, your MTN Mobile Money limits are not from your network provider – MTN, but rather from the Bank of Ghana.
The Mobile Money Limits
As mentioned in the foregoing paragraphs, Mobile money accounts are pre-installed with limitations.
These limitations are further grouped into two tiers. They are tier one and tier two limits.

Tier One
The first tier is the lower tier of limits.
Daily Limit: GHS 2,000 (This is the total amount of money you can receive or send in a day)
Monthly Limit: GHS 20,000 (The total amount of money that can be sent or received through your mobile money account in a month).
Total Balance Limit: GHS 10,000 (The highest amount of money you can have in your Mobile Money account at any given time. )
Tier Two
Of the two categories, Tier two is the higher tier and it comes with the following limits:
Daily Limit: GHS 5,000
Monthly Limit : GHS 50,000
Account Balance Limit: GHS 20,000
How To Check Your Mobile Money Limit
To confirm which of the two tiers you’re on and how much of your limits you’ve used already, follow the steps below:
- Dial *170# on your phone to open the mobile money portal
- Dial 6 to select ‘My Wallet’
- Dial # to view the next page
- Dial 8 to check your wallet limits
- Enter your MOMO pin
On the next page, you should see a detailed summary of your daily and monthly limits. This includes the amount you’ve used up and how much you have left of your limits.
